• A pilot study on the efficacy of a 10-week mind body intervention on quality of life and inflammatory disease markers in patients with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Mind Body Group Intervention Study

Subjects needed to take part in a GI Mind Body Interventional study. You may be a good candidate for the 10-week study involving group sessions (relaxation, meditation, and behavioral therapy), questionnaires to track progress throughout the 10-week experience, and blood analysis. Groups will start in February and will meet on either Mondays or Wednesdays from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM at MGH.

There is no payment for participating in this study, but you will be receiving care. The study will pay for parking for necessary visits.

General Inclusion Criteria
• Between the ages of 18 and 75
• Have documentation of diagnosis of IBS or IBD.


General Exclusion Criteria
• Cannot currently practice Tai Chi, meditation, or yoga regularly.
• Cannot have recently started psychotherapy
• Must not have duodenal ulcer, gastric ulcer, diverticulitis, GERD, infectious gastroenteritis or acute gastrointestinal process.
• Cannot be taking steroids (exception: prednisone dose ≤ 20mg acceptable).
