- Do You Have Asthma Symptoms Despite Medication?
If you still have asthma symptoms despite using Advair,Symbicort, or Dulera you may be eligible for a study testing a new approach to asthma treatment. This approach uses a medication that is approved by the Food and Drug administration (FDA) but not to treat asthma. The drug targets certain cells that we believe play a role in asthma. To qualify for the study, you have to be 18-65 years old and have asthma symptoms despite your therapy. You will be seen by a medical doctor and will receive the study medication or placebo (a sugar pill that contains no active medication) at no cost. The study involves 18 visits over a 7 month period and two bronchoscopy procedures. You will be asked to take imatinib or placebo in addition to your current asthma medication to assess if it improves your asthma symptoms and control. We will ask you to withhold your current asthma medications at certain times during the study. Compensation is up to $2000.
