• Characterization of the Metabolic Changes Associated with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)
Massachusetts General Hospital is seeking people with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), people with weakness due to neurological diseases other than ALS, and healthy volunteers to participate in a study enrolling under the direction of Drs. Sabrina Paganoni and Merit Cudkowicz.

This study is being done to learn more about muscle metabolism. We would like to find out if muscles process nutrients, such as sugar and fat, differently in people with ALS and other neurological diseases. This information may help us understand why muscles become weak and may be very valuable for future development of new treatments for ALS and other conditions.

Participants must be at least 18 years of age and be able to answer brief questions about their medical history. Participants must be willing to exercise on a stationary bike for about 10 minutes give 2-3 blood samples. Your total participation would include up to 2 visits to the study site over the course of a 2-month period. Participants will be reimbursed for parking and will receive compensation of up to $50. Interested participants should contact the study coordinator, Anne Bozik, at 617-724-4246 or abozik@partners.org to learn more information about the study.
