- Phenotype and Genetic Factors in Autism Spectrum Disorders
Do you have a child who is diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)?
The Autism Consortium is currently seeking volunteers for a new study for families that have a child diagnosed with an ASD. Researchers are hoping to learn more about possible genetic causes of ASDs. We want to better understand the behaviors of individuals with ASDs and their family members.
To be eligible participants must:
• Have an ASD diagnosis
• Be at least 24 months old
• Have English as the primary language spoken in the home
Parents and some siblings will also be asked to participate in the study.
As part of this study, participants will be asked to provide a blood sample and have some assessments that may include IQ tests, medical/family history forms, questionnaires, and behavioral observations.
Families enrolled in the study can be seen at 5 different locations: Boston University/Boston Medical Center, Children’s Hospital Boston, Tufts Medical Center, Massachusetts General Hospital, and UMASS Memorial Medical Center. Some of the testing can also be done in the family’s home if preferred.
At the conclusion of participation, families will receive $40 American Express gift cards for each participating child. Also, the results of the testing performed on the child with an ASD will be summarized in a report for the family.
